INFORMATION
The River to River (R2R) race is a renowned, annual 80
mile relay race held in southern Illinois in mid-April. 240 eight member
teams from around the country are entered with many, including the Lisle Windrunners, repeating year after year. Our club has been entering 2 or
3 teams since it's inception in 1988. It is a very entertaining and
rewarding
experience which always improves the teamwork and camaraderie of club runners.
The course starts near the Mississippi river by Wolf
Lake, IL and proceeds over 80 miles of hilly and curvy 2 lane highways to Golconda on the banks of the Ohio river. The 8 members of each team run 3
cycles of approximately 3.3 miles each in a specific order. All members of
each team ride together in a 15 passenger van.
The entire trip covers a three day weekend with the
van trip on Friday to a motel in Marion, IL where they will stay through
Saturday night. The race is held on Saturday with celebrations, snacks and
awards afterward in Golconda and a drive back to Marion for dinner. Breakfast
and the return trip to the Chicago area is completed on Sunday morning.
The Route. Start north of Wolf Lake
close to the Mississippi, finish 80 miles later at Golconda on the Ohio
River.
